Sehwag quiet return to old hunting ground

It must be a strange feeling for the man who blazed his way to A world record ODI score here less than 2 years ago to return to the venue with the fight for survival highest in his mind. Sehwag had smashed 219 in December 2011 against West Indies, and walked away with a swagger, and his status as the enforcer enhanced.

Some stars, but not shining
Wednesday evening, Virender Sehwag strolled into the stadium with the Delhi squad for the Challenger Trophy under the shadow of his one-time protege, Kohli, with his eye purely on regaining his place in the India squad.

Good impact
Virat was actually warming the bench during that double ton. After watching that Viru show, he describes it with a smile as "highlights”. It is a huge moment. I have always seen him play, accepted him. He is a big player. I have played under him. It is an honor and privilege to lead him, said Kohli, who has led India, but never Sehwag even for Delhi. The 2 discussed matters for a while at the Holkar stadium during practice, although Virender Sehwag kept largely to himself, not mixing much with other players. Virender Sehwag said, "His help is priceless".

No practice

Virender Sehwag who had been absent from Delhi's preparatory camp, even missing the one-off practice match against Services, flew in on Tuesday evening along with the team. Barring irregular hits at the nets, Virender Sehwag has not played a lot of cricket of late. That rustiness is likely to be tested. Rains have ensured some dampness on the pitch which promises seam movement.

Virat Kohli is hoping that he gets to see another Sehwag magic show. Almost everybody agreed that 270-280 will be a challenging total on this track, unless Virender Sehwag plays one of his knocks when still 300 will tough to defend.

It has been learn that Virender Sehwag had shown interest in captaining Delhi but the state selectors, especially the panel chairman, Chetan Chauhan, went with Virat. "The decision to appoint Virat makes sense. He is captaining India, otherwise it would have been a step back," said Madan Lal.

Aus Won the ODI Series 2-1 against England

Shane Watson century saw Australia win to a 49-run ended England in the 5th one-day international with a 2-1 ODI series victory.

Watson, involved throughout in a trip that saw Australia arrive in Britain in May before their early Champions Trophy exit was followed by a 3-0 Ashes series loss, made 143 in a total of 298 all out.
Jointly with Australia captain Michael Clarke (75), he shared a 4rth-wicket partnership of 163, on a ground where they'd both played for Hampshire, after their side had slumped to 48 for 3 in this day/night clash. Durham all-rounder Ben Stokes led England's attack with an ODI best 5 wickets for 61 runs, the 22-year-old all-rounder starring as Australia fell just short of 300.
England's reply got off to a terrible start when Kevin Pietersen was run out for nought after being slow to answer Michael Carberry call.Carberry, on his home ground, made 30 before he was lbw to left-arm seamer James Faulkner 3/38.

And it wasn't long before 50 for 2 became 68 for four as Joe Root (13) and Luke Wright came and went. Morgan fell for 30 when stumped by Matthew Wade off spinner Adam Voges. England’s hopes now rested with Ravi Bopara and Jos Buttler, whose 65 not out saw them to a series-leveling 3-wicket win in Cardiff on Saturday.
Buttler scored at better than a run-a-ball but Faulkner, smartly changing to around the wicket, bowled him for 42 to end a stand of 92 with Bopara. And when Bopara, who made 66, followed when well caught at extra-cover by Voges off Johnson to give the left-arm fast bowler his 200th ODI wicket, England were down and out at 197 for 7.

Pakistan-born leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed completed the match by bowling last man Rankin with 2 overs left. Australia, on a ground where New Zealand's Martin Guptill struck 189 not out against England in an ODI in June, saw 48 for one become 48 for 3 when Stokes took 2wickets in 2 balls after a 30-minute rain break.
Finch was caught by Morgan at point and next ball Matthew Wade gloved an intended hook to wicketkeeper Buttler.Clarke, passed fit after fears he'd suffer a recurrence of his long-standing back injury, survived the hat-trick.

He followed his hundred in Australia's 88-run victory in the 2nd ODI in Manchester with another fine innings before slicing a pull off Jordan to Pietersen at mid-off to end a 76-ball knock including 10 fours and a six.
Shane Watson dominant 107-ball innings, featuring 12 fours and 6 sixes, completed when he was caught behind off Stokes.

Akhtar lashes out at the BCCI over non-issue of visas

Former Pakistan player Shoaib Akhtar has said that the Pakistan Cricket Board should focus on building a strong national team instead of pandering to the whims of the power-hungry BCCI.

Akhtar was a knee-jerk reaction to the Indian Government rejection of visa applications of Faisalabad Wolves players, who were supposed to play in The Champions League Twenty20 tournament.

I am not surprised that the Indians have not issued visas to the Faisalabad Wolves team for the Champions League. The fact is that until and unless we have normal and friendly relations at the government to government level why do we expect the Indian cricket board to be supportive.

I have always said that we don't need to run after India all the time and we need to stop begging on different issues whether it is resumption of two-sided cricket ties, allowing our players for The IPL or our team for the Champions League, he added.

We should have never expected them to issue visas for the Faisalabad team. When they first invited us we should have taken a bold stance and said 'thank you'. When will we as a nation or board show some self respect and pride in our stance towards India, Akhtar told a TV channel.

The enfant terrible of world cricket said that all that Pakistan players had to lose from the latest turn of events was a "500 thousand dollars.

It is time we stopped going after India all the time. We need to start setting our house in order and increase our own domestic cricket and communications. We need to think on building up our cricket structure and building up a world class side. When we have a world class side each person will not only want to play against us but on our terms as well, he said.
