India wins the Champions Trophy-2013cub beat Eng

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni praised the mental resilience of his side after they beat England by just five runs in a thrilling Champions Trophy final at Edgbaston on Sunday.

England, still to win a global one-day international match after what was their 5th defeat in a final, were 110 for four come the 18th over chasing 130 after India made 129 for 7 in a match reduced by rain from 50 to 20 overs per side.

But Ishant Sharma, having been struck for 6 and bowled successive wides, took 2 wickets in 2 balls to remove Eoin Morgan (33) and Ravi Bopara (30) after they rescued England from the depths of 46 for four with a stand of 64.
That started a collapse that saw 4 wickets lost for 3 runs in 8 balls with tail ender James Tredwell unable to hit the six off the last delivery of the match that would have given England victory.

It's important to be positive. I said let's seem for a good start, that's something that's very critical, don't look at the result, explain Dhoni when asked what he told his team when they took the field in defence of a modest total.

The first and foremost thing was don't look up, God is not coming to save you, you have to fight it out, added the wicketkeeper-batsman , one of just 3 survivors along with Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina from the India team that beat Sri Lanka in a Mumbai final to win the 2011 World Cup.
We are the number one ranked team, let play like that.

This win against the match hosts, albeit in front of a capacity Edgbaston crowd dominated by India fans, meant the World Cup holders, in what is set to be the last Champions Trophy before its replacement by a World Test Championship, win all 5 of their matches after a pair of warm-up victories.

Even the warm-up games for us are important because if we lose one then people start saying we can't play overseas, said Kohli, who top-scored for India with a rapid 43.The guys winning 7games out of 7 and showing their character like we did, everyone's really happy. England needed 20 to succeed off 16 balls with 6 wickets standing only to 'choke' in a manner more usually associated with South Africa.

Clearly from there you would back yourself to win more times than you would lose in that situation, but it shows how fast games can change in Twenty20 when you lose a couple of wickets, said dejected England captain Alastair Cook. Asked if this was his worst day on England duty, the starter replied, as a captain, yeah. It's a tough pill to swallow at the moment. We had high hopes coming in today of achieving something special.
We got close. I am proud of the way the lads have fought from being under a fair bit of pressure in this match. Cook was unusually vocal in his criticism of Australian television umpire Bruce Oxenford for giving out Ian Bell stumped by Dhoni off left-arm spin bowler Ravindra Jadeja, the man-of-the-match for his 33 not out and 2 wickets for 24 runs.

It was a close call but Oxenford ruled in India’s' favors and a disbelieving Bell, on his Warwickshire home ground, was out for 13 with England in trouble at 46 for four. I thought it was a poor decision," said Cook.

India In final match beat by SL 8 wickets

India passed their 1st test of genuine English conditions on cloudy Thursday evening as they seemed out Sri Lanka by 8 wickets. India enters their third Champions Trophy final match.
After restricting Lanka to 181/8 through a combination of astute swing and spin, India romped home with 15 overs to spare as Shikhar Dhawan continued his impressive run with 68 and Virat Kohli hasten the expected with a blistering unbeaten 58.
Dhawan was reprieved by captain Angelo Mathews at slip when he had scored 18 - a costly miss - and he went on to smash his 2nd half-century of the tournament, to go with the 2 (114,102)centuries he plundered in the first couple of matches.
Kohli then reeled in win in a great speed, peppering his fifty with disdainful boundaries against Sri Lanka trump card Lasith Malinga and a towering six off leggie Jeevan Mendis, the last 50 runs of the chase coming in just 5 overs.

India will face hosts England in Sunday final – arguably the 2 best sides over the last fortnight meeting for the title with an unblemished record of 4 wins in as many matches.

Sri Lanka paltry total was an outcome of an overall good bowling show in conditions fostering movement in the air. Man of the match Ishant Sharma and off-spinner R. Ashwin picked up 3wickets each, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja exercised marked control and economy.

The final is scheduled to be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Sunday. Australia, who needed to win in 29.1 overs to qualify, made a brave bid to force their 1st win in the tournament with belligerent batting led by Adam Voges top score of 49.

The Australians were 192-9 when the last-wicket pair of Clint McKay and Xavier Doherty gave Sri Lanka a fright by adding 41 amid mounting tension. Tillakaratne Dilshan ended the drama with an amazing return catch to dismiss McKay, who made a career-best 30. Doherty remained unbeaten on 15.

The fight back would have been followed keenly by New Zealand, who would have joined England in the semi-finals if the last pair had scored the remaining runs.

India goes to Champions Trophy semi finals beat by WI

The match panned out totally in India favor, thanks to Shikhar Dhawan 2nd repeated ODI century and Ravindra Jadeja maiden 5-wicket haul, and was decided with 65 balls to spare as MS Dhoni team chased down the 234 target with chase, becoming first into the Champions Trophy semifinals.
But the overpowering verdict, by 8 wickets, was also a fair indicator of how much had changed in the thirty long years since Kapil Dev and his men transformed their own and the lives of innumerable others on a sun-kissed evening at Lord’s pitch.
Jadeja strikes

Soon after Charles reached his fifty, Jadeja spun into action, starting with a maiden and then taking a wicket in each of his next 3 overs. Charles was trapped in front with a flatter delivery Marlon Samuels (1) was finished in on the decision review, while Sarwan (1) patted the left-arm spinner down the leg side and into Dhoni gloves.
Darren Bravo had all this while was trudging clearly through, as if mired in thick bog and clingy marshland; his agony ended with an Ashwin beauty. flight and turn and a swift stumping curtailing his 83-ball 35.The other Bravo – Dwayne – was caught at deep mid-wicket trying to pull Yadav, bringing the Windies down from a rosy 103/1 inside 20 overs to 163/6 in almost 38.
Dhawan & Karthik
After the Caribbeans were confined to 233/9, despite Darren Sammy brave late hitting, openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma (52) added 101 in about 15 overs for a solid start. Rohit and Virat Kohli (24) - playing his 100th ODI - fell to the guile of Sunil Narine, but Dhawan held one end steady.

He was dropped on 37 by Kemar Roach and then partner Dinesh Karthik (51*) in another big alliance (109) that brought India the big win. For a second it appeared that rain would deny Dhawan of a century, but play soon resumed and the Delhi southpaw reached 102 balls with a scintillating six cut off the bowling off Dwayne Bravo.

South Africa big win Pakistan by 67 runs

Chris Morris took 2 wickets on his ODI debut and Ryan McLaren a career-best 4 /19 as South Africa returned to winning ways in the Champions Trophy with a 67-run victory over Pakistan.
Pakistan set 235 to win, done on 167 all out as South Africa made light of the absence of premier express bowlers Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel in winning with 5 overs to spare. McLarens return, which included a spell of 4 for 5 in 11 balls, saw him enjoy fresh success at an Edgbaston ground he'd once helped look after while with Warwickshire 2nd XI.
In 2007, the seamer took a hat-trick at Edgbaston for Kent as they won English county cricket Twenty20 Cup. Both Pakistan and South Africa needed to win this day/night fixture after losing their opening Group B matches to the West Indies and India respectively. But while this win revived South Africa chances of a semi-final spot, defeat left Pakistan hopes hanging by a thread.
South Africa concludes their group campaign against the West Indies in Cardiff on Friday, with Pakistan facing arch-rivals India at Edgbaston on Saturday.

NZ thrill win one wickets by Sri Lanka

New Zealand survives a hostile spell from sling-arm speedy bowler Lasith Malinga to carve out a tense 1-wicket triumph over Sri Lanka in the Champions Trophy. The Black Caps messed up a simple chase of Sri Lanka's 138 runs all out and were reduced to 122-8, before the last-wicket couple of Tim Southee and Mitchell McClenaghan saw them through in the 37th over.
Left-arm seamer McClenaghan set up the win with 4-43 after Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat, but Malinga stole the thunder with 4-34 that almost secured his team an improbable win. The dramatic win helped New Zealand end a 6-match losing streak against the Sri Lankans and claim full points in their first match of the eight-nation tournament.
A slower, flighted ball caught star batsman Jayawardene on the back foot and umpire Bruce Oxen ford upheld Vettori loud appeal for leg-before. Sangakkara fell in the 37th over, caught at point by Williamson off spinner Nathan McCullum, who complete with 2 wickets.
New Zealand next play Australia in Birmingham on Wednesday, a day before Sri Lanka clash with hosts England at the Oval in London.

His scintillating 29-ball came apart; Jadeja claimed 2 wickets with his left-arm spin, was as efficient as a ration card, affected a crucial run out and also took a catch, repaying the faith that captain MS Dhoni has often invest in him.
Off-spinner R. Ashwin was also an image of parsimony, conceding a mere 47 in his 10 overs, while the seamers - Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar - same two wickets.
